Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 September 2026
Earned is a parental-control and token-economy app: children earn tokens for using approved apps and spend them on entertainment apps or real-world rewards, with a parent approving redemptions. This policy explains what information Earned collects, why, and how it is protected. It is written from Earned's actual data practices, not a generic template.
1. Who controls the data
A family account is created and owned by a parent (the account holder). Child profiles exist only as sub-profiles under a parent's family account. A child cannot create an Earned account independently, and all rules, approvals, and data-deletion requests are controlled by the parent. Earned does not market to children and does not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child outside of what a parent sets up on their behalf (see "Children's privacy / COPPA" below).
2. What we collect
| Data type | Collected? | Shared with third parties? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| App activity: which app is used and for how long (never content, screenshots, keystrokes, or browsing history) | Yes | No | Core token economy: calculating tokens earned/spent |
| Parent account info (name, email) via Firebase Authentication | Yes | No | Account creation, sign-in, family management |
| Purchase / redemption history (only if a subscription or reward redemption is used) | Yes | Yes. Shared with our payment processor (Stripe) and/or gift-card fulfillment partner (Tremendous), solely to process that transaction | Billing and reward fulfillment |
| Basic app performance / crash data | Yes | No | Diagnosing bugs and crashes |
What we never collect
Message content, screenshots, browsing or search history, keystrokes, precise location, contacts, photos, videos, or audio. Earned's enforcement is based on which app is in the foreground and for how long, never what a child does inside that app.
3. How data is used
App-usage data drives the core token economy (deterministic earn/spend rules applied server-side). Account data lets a parent sign in, manage their family, and receive notifications. Purchase data processes subscriptions and reward redemptions. Crash/performance data helps us fix bugs. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use app-usage or account data for third-party advertising.
4. Where data lives and how it's protected
Earned is built on Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Authentication). All data in transit is encrypted (TLS). The backend is authoritative: a device cannot fabricate or alter its own token balance; every change is recorded in an append-only ledger with no silent deletes or overwrites.
5. Children's privacy / COPPA
Earned is designed to be used by children only under a parent's supervision and account. The parent, not the child, is the account holder, sets up child profiles, configures rules, and approves reward redemptions. Earned does not require a child to provide any personal information to use the app (no child-entered name, email, photo, or contact details), and does not serve behavioral advertising to children. If you are a parent and want to review, export, or delete your family's data, see "Your rights" below.
6. Your rights (access, correction, deletion)
Parents can request deletion of their family's account and associated data by contacting us (see Support below) or through the in-app account deletion flow. Deleting a family account removes the parent's and children's profile data; ledger records tied to completed financial transactions may be retained as required for fraud prevention, accounting, or legal compliance, per applicable law.
7. Retention
We retain account and usage data for as long as the family account is active, and for a limited period after deletion as needed to complete pending transactions, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required, notify account holders in-app or by email.
